Costs far more new, though, and it jut doesn't have the character I like in my bikes! Also, I run into the same problem as a used bike, if I end up landing later Saturday instead of Friday or in the morning, I don't really have much time to find anything until Monday morning, assuming their shops are closed on Sundays. For the amount of time I have, it is just not a risk I want to take.

We have only used Icelandair. They charged about a $150 per bike last summer from Portland to Copenhagen. I'm not sure this is an option from Detroit Metro Airport. Probably not one you'd want to use anyway.

The current plan is flying Toronto, unless rates change significantly by the time I book. I've done it for my last few European trips, the savings is great enough to warrant the extra drive. I'm currently looking at base fares in the mid-high $600's from YYZ, compared to $1150ish from DTW. Icelandair was actually on my radar, their rates are comparatively cheap enough that the total price would be in the neighborhood of BA without bike fees.
