I think it time to get use to my SPD Pedals

I have the Shimano pd-m545 SPD Pedals and Teva pivot DH SPD Shoes
and Shimano SH-56 multi-release cleats


What should I do just put them on my Surly LHT 26in 52cm 2008 and ride a week or 2 weeks
unloaded to get use to them???
