Just keep riding, you'll be pleasantly surprised how much your lungs can repair themselves. Be careful about catching URI, or letting a cold get out of hand, and get your flu and pneumonia shots. The group ride each week sounds really good, it can serve as encouragement to maintain your cycling fitness, and to improve it so you can keep up, or move up in the pecking order, if you are so minded.
Welcome to the 50+, BF in general, and to cycling, its highly addictive and rewarding at the same time.
