We usually get by with less than one week per year, but we have a nice advantage of two mature trees that shield the house from the south and from the southwest. We're really only bothered by heat/humidity when it comes to sleeping, so we only run the AC during the day when it's apparent that it's going to be an uphill battle for our little cooling unit come nighttime.
Same, except we're on the top floor so get a good draft and we face the SE and there are mature trees blocking the sun on the W side. We get all the sun in the cooler morning hours and none in the heat of the day.
Too bad the place is kind of a dump.
