StephenH said it all and well. Unless you have frequent flats, it's easier to put in a new tube. Watch for online deals and tubes are cheap. If you don't like throwing them away, save the flat tubes until you have several, and patch them all at once. Once glue is opened, it dries up quickly so doing multiple tubes at once uses the glue while it's still there.
