If you don't find yourself enamored of the look or steering feel of the late-model fork, there is an inexpensive French-sized option for the 22.0mm steerer that uses a 25.4 clamp diameter that can be easily rough-honed to 26mm as shown below.

The Origin8 quill stem shown is marked 22.2mm quill, but is a tenth-millimeter (.004") smaller than a typical stem marked as 22.2mm, so really seems to be sized to fit either standard, and fits French and Austrian steerers with a particularly slop-free fit, which I prefer.

These sell for under $20 online so is a good, quite-sturdy replacement for a 10cm neck on a French bike. I tested it in several older French bikes going back to the early 1960's and it went in without force in every case.
Also, the Origin8 logos rub right off with wetted steel wool without blemishing the nice finish in the slightest.
