If I lived in Portland, fenders would be on my list, but a plastic bag is a decent (and cheap) solution. I like the thicker ones with a drawstring I can tie around the post, not a cheap grocery store one that is quick to develop holes. You hardly notice it when you are riding (unless your saddle has an excessive amount of tilt). The bag is also useful if you want to park your bike while it's raining.
