If one had a small business of building and selling vintage bikes, then one might just have multiple wheel sets, and offer a customer a choice of sewups vs clinchers.

If one can find them, a quality used pair of tubular wheels may be as cheap if not cheaper than the corresponding clinchers, especially if the clinchers are made with new parts.
