True. But those were not ancient times. We in the Midwest were well aware of a growing sporting bicycle culture elsewhere. But popular sport... used with cycling in America in the 60's.... seems a bit aggrandized. I mean... we all know what Curling is today... but I wouldn't call the sport popular (in America).

We didn't have the Internet.... but we did have newspapers, magazines, libraries... even color TV. And industries all practiced well established record keeping. Regional differences weren't much different back then then they are today.

I am sure I had the "standardized" sized handlebars (for a bicycle of the size I owned).
