Dual side has its benefits on tour.

Example: you arrive in town at 2:30 PM. You're camping at a municipal campground. It's 100 degrees outside and you want to get out of your smelly bike shoes and sweaty socks and put on some sandals, so you do that right away, before you set up your tent.
Once you're all settled in, you feel like riding into town, hitting up a cafe, or getting a milkshake, or a beer, whatever. Wouldn't it be nice to leave your sandals on and have platform pedals while you ride into town? I'd rather let my feet air out than put my still-warm damp socks back on, and hot black leather shoes.

Not that I do this, but I see the appeal.
