I'm nowhere near retirement, but it all comes and goes in waves. When I HAVE to do a thing, that's when I get less interested in it. Right now I have to part out my old VW and move the parts to the new one... which means I've done nothing on either =) My recent bike build for Eroica became a chore in the end because I HAVE TO get it done before the event. My other projects, like my coastie or a bike for a friend, since they're not on a must do schedule they fall into the category of play and recreation. Perhaps now that it's all you have on your plate it feels like work because it's no longer an escape from something else?
My dad just retired as of 2 months ago and man, he's killing me saying how he's thinking of going back to work. I've bought him a bunch of painting supplies because that used to be his thing before the necessities of raising a family took over. However, it's hard to compete with his friends who pretty much say, "let's go to the bar and get a drink" every single day. What you're experiencing definitely doesn't sound rare!
Maybe you just need to diversify and find a new spark in a new hobby? I wonder if you found yourself busy with something else if the bikes would then call to you again.
