Bikes: 1986 Alpine (steel road bike), 2009 Ti Habenero, 2013 Specialized Roubaix

Try unclipping by rotating heel INWARDS. Much easier IMO. Just be sure to unclip this way at top of pedal stroke.

Also agree with practice on trainer.
