ENVE probably just wants to verify that the wheels are indeed their products and not knock-offs, and that there is in fact a problem with them before going to the time and expense of getting the wheels return for replacement.

Every Manufacturer of quality products is having problems with counterfeit goods. They probably just want to make sure that they own the problem before they fix it.
