I live in Lawrence and think that it's probably the best cycling scene in Kansas (Kansas City area is decent as well, but I think the routes are better in Lawrence). You should be able to find an organized group ride pretty much any day of the week. There are a number of people that ride road, mtb, gravel and cx. It's certainly not Colorado, but there are still a number of people that enjoy getting out and riding. As far as off-the-bike culture, Lawrence is one of the coolest towns in the Midwest and is often rated very highly by a number of publications.
