I almost always wear a helmet anytime while riding, including touring. Not while touring but years ago I had a significant mountain biking accident and there's an excellent chance that the helmet prevented a major head injury.

And besides, as Saddlesores mentioned, my helmet with the spikes emanating from the top in Mohawk like fashion really is a chick magnet.
