Hey folks,
A little story behind this bike. My Dad bought it new in 1995 and rode it for less than a full season before blowing out his knee and stopped road racing. He gave me the bike in 2005 after sitting hanging in my brothers old bedroom for the better part of a decade. A quick wipe down and some air in the tires and it was good to go. I rode it for a year or so before upgrading to a new bike. Fortunately, it's my size and I decided it was time to give it the TLC it deserves. It is in absolute pristine condition. Not a single scratch on the frame. I keep looking at the thing saying "oh i'll upgrade this!" only to see that it's completely unnecessary because of the great condition. So far all I have done is put on a new chain. I have some cash I'm willing to put in it, maybe some wheels. I was thinking of upgrading to a new 105 groupset overhaul since, while it is low mileage, some of the parts on here are looking a little rough. Definitely some new tires (these are the original ones he had on, sat indoors forever but I'm not about to ride around on 20 year old tires). Anything I should look for on a bike that's sat around with very little use for the last 20 years? I have a few months off before I go back to school and I thought this would be a fun project for me, but it's kind of hard to come up with stuff to do to such a clean bike. I'm not planning on doing any serious riding with it, just something to mess around on when I don't feel like riding my commuter or road bike. Selling it isn't an option either, a lot of sentimental value to it.
Thanks,
Joel
