I've had mine for a couple of years and they still seem to work just as long.
Recharging NiMH batteries after only partial discharge can harm them. It causes crystal formation on the Ni side which reduces capacity (the "memory" problem of NiCd). It's not as pronounced as NiCd but it will reduce capacity over the long run. For all kinds of information on battery maintainence go here.
