Could be because only the CHP Carry scales and the law is for weight not GVW. Write a ticket for over 6000 pounds and the people come to court with curb weight? Just a guess?

only one big SUV has a curb weight over 6000 pounds and that is the Lincoln Navigator. That comes in at 6039 I think but the big Chevy is lighter. Under 6000.
