According to the article I referenced you can add extra blip buttons to the road set up, an additional 2 per side. On the tri set up you can have two buttons per side.
But each blip can still only move the derailleur in one direction. Why not incorporate an extra button into the lever to make shifting in either direction be possible with the same hand? Blips are not the solution to this problem.
