Hi
So as most of you know I have a Breezer Venturi with the 5800 groupset. I love that bike but its not a bike to ride centuries on or do a tour on. For one thing the geometry makes it difficult to ride it anything but quickly/fast, there are other minor issues like it has no mounts for racks.
So I'm on the market to buy a bike I can do some long distance riding on with mounts for racks, a more upright geometry etc. Previously I had a Bikes Direct Dawes Lightening DLX and twice a month I would ride a century on it and I did a trip from SF to SD and back as a farewell ride to it before giving it to a kid. I want a bike to start doing those things again.
I don't get to climb much where I am so the Claris groupset and a 20-23pound bike is fine. I'm thinking of the following options:
i) Buy another bikes Direct Dawes Lightning DLX for $399. Spend $150 on some nice sturdy training wheels and another $100 replacing the crankset and brakes on making it the full Claris group set. It would probably be a 21 pound bike.
ii) Buy one of the big name companies Claris groupset endurance geometry bikes such as

iii) All of the bikes in ii) are well under $1000 so I'm not sure what Performance has to offer over them.
