Unk what's a 650b? Later.
I've done the same with a pin and have had good luck with a vice or the chainbreaker itself. The key is getting it into the outside part of the link. Turn it on its side and use a pair of needle nose pliers and a hammer to gently get it started in the outside part of the link. Then put it back in the chainbreaker(with it wound out of course) or a vice.(The chainbreaker is better) Make sure the holes are lined up and start applying pressure. Get it through one side and keep going. Make sure the holes are still lined up and it should go through the other side.

If you ride triples, you get plenty of experience adding or subtracting links until you get a new chain length dialed in.
