Is this really what we want?
Generally I know cyclists to be compassionate, caring people. All of my coaches were basically my best friends, my team mates my rocks. Strangers on the trails smile and wave, rivals on the race course lend a gel. So we cyclists on this forum have a lot to live up to. Why are so many of you so cold to new comers? I'm coming into the SS community after years with the roadies, and many of you have been outright rude.
I'm not trying to make this about me, I don't want your apologies (in fact I fully expect to hear more snarky comments). I just want to ask you guys why you have to be so guarded, why you have to interrogate someone for claiming to love the same sport you love, instead of welcoming them in? It's not a criminal offense to not know as much as you might want, and why in the hell do we have a forum like this if we're not supposed to ask for help? Try to embody the kindness that cycling has built itself around, welcome people in and try to help them get immersed in this amazing community we're lucky enough to be a part of. It honestly made me extremely sad to see how the majority of you guys greet a newcomer.
I'm waiting for all the hateful replies... maybe you'll prove me wrong. We'll see.
