You state that drivers are absolutely out of control and the police in general are clueless. No offense but only an idiot would continue to ride if he actually felt that way.
Following two recent incidents in my area, some people (or perhaps one person with multiple id's) is calling for a ban on all bicycle traffic on a particular road. Not one of them is a cyclist, however; it's obvious from the language they use. I ride that road regularly, and don't find it dangerous. The two incidents were caused by drunk drivers, and were the first incidents in years.
I agree that if anyone thinks a particular road is too dangerous, then they shouldn't ride on it. There certainly are roads that I won't ride on.
