8 speed or 9 speed... touring on friction shifters .

Hello everyone !

Here is my first of many questions im gonna ask you all. So im upgrading my vintage touring bike Ramondo . At the moment its running on a double crankset and 6 speed rear cassette.

Im gonna swap the double for a triple crankset and upgrade the wheels to some second hand Mavic open 4's with shimano 600 hubs .

Now my question is ... is there much diffrence in 8 and 9 speed cassettes taking in that i want to use the original old friction shifters that strangely fit round the steam not the down tube (i have really grown to love it)

Would having an 8 speed be easier on the friction shifters? Or wont it make much difference ?

RIDE ON!

Jake
