genericbikedude does have somewhat of a valid point in that as we become more technologically advanced, it becomes progressively more difficult to be self-sufficient/reliant. some people get so used to modern convienences and having things done for them that they don't do nearly anything themselves. there's definately something wrong with that.
however, i think it's important to distinguish those people from the people who do take an interest in diy, even though that interest doesn't extend to all of the things that they rely on.
