- The Mazama is a triple crank with an excellent gear range when mated with the cassette REI spec'd cassette. This is compared to the Haanjo Comp which is a cyclocross geared double crank paired to a more limited cassette.
- The Mazama has 32H rims which I personally would want as a minimum. This is compared to the 24H rims on the Haanjo Comp.
I like the Mazama's tires more and have them on one of my bikes, but thats something easily changed and wouldnt sway me one way or the other.
Both the Mazama and Haanjo Comp have TRP Spyre brakes.
The Haanjo Comp is spec'd nicely with a 105 everything drivetrain. Thats really impressive for the price.
I value the gearing more though and the Mazama has gearing similar(actually 'better') to what I currently ride. I cant imagine using 36-30 gearing to get up some of the gravel road climbs around me.
Plus I lean towards steel, so there is that for the Mazama.
Really though, if you like the gearing and wheels on the Haanjo Comp, then its a heck of a bike for the price.
Ok, I will go ahead and try out both tomorrow as I head to the store. I have never dealt with bar end shifters, so that might be something to get used to if I choose the Novara. How open is REI to let you get on the bike and test it out?
