Look at your knees, which work sort of like elbows. Would your rather stand for an hour on slightly bent knees or deeply bent knees? Would you rather finish your pedal stroke with slightly bent knees or deeply bent knees?

You bend your knees and elbows for power when that's what you need, but nearly straight is more relaxing.
