Wonder if that has anything to do with people downloading the Flikr option that allows you upload in bulk. When I got my new computer a few years ago I did that and it ended up automatically uploading tons of photos from iPhoto. My GF is in IT and couldn't figure out how to get it to stop running. She had to start a chat with Apple to figure out how to get rid of the thing.
