I tried to put a road crank on my 90 Schwinn MTB and was thwart by the stays that were set for MTB cranks only. On an older 84 Schwinn they had straight back stays then flaired out, perfect for road cranks. Some of these frames were ment for the smaller chain ringed MTB cranks.
