No, you are not. Replace the pedals with a bigger platform such as the MKS Lambda (aka Gripking) and you will have a wide variety of shoe positions to work with. The surface of the pedal will engage any somewhat knobby soled tennis shoe enough to make it grip enough for climbing and rainy days.
