I'll try to get back to the point with a little story. After I'd been riding my Beamer for a few months in Germany, I tried to explain to another MC rider about countersteer, which I'd discovered on my own. He didn't believe me, so I took him out in my bike with me and had him watch over my shoulder. BMWs, at least back in the day, were the only bike with a friction throttle which one could let go of. So had him watch as we cornered, me pulling back on the outside bar with one finger for a moment, then one finger on the other bar for the next, opposite corner. Can't do that on a bicycle but that's what we do without really realizing it, at least what we should be doing. Gotta move the wheels over. So simple. But just goes to show that there are riders out there who don't know how to ride.
Another thing I learned which I still do on the road bike at high speed is to corner with my head. Just drop your head into the corner with eyes horizontal, and the bike goes right around. Another thing I learned, which I still don't understand, is to corner with your pelvis. Simply rotate your pelvis away from the corner and the bike drops right in. Perhaps that rotation is actually undetectable countersteering. Works on both bike types. Gotta be going like stink and set the bike up way ahead of time. The bike just drops in right on your line. I'd toe out just a little. I dropped the MC quite a few times cornering. They say you don't know how to ride until you've been down 6 times. I thought that was about right. I've never been down on the road bike from overcooking it. Way too painful without leathers and crash bars! I just take it easy like everyone else. Except that I'm a little faster.
