Only recently has this been something I've worked on. For the first year or so, I would NEVER stand, but there were times when it was all I could do to maintain cadence in the easiest gear. Like @
caloso I have a little hill that I do repeats on, sometimes making a point of standing the whole way, but it's shorter - 2:30 at a comfortable pace,
PR of 1:05. When I did it in about 1:15 recently, that was probably the longest I've stood continuously. Normally, it's just to get over a bump or a particularly steep bit, probably 30 seconds, tops. I try to gauge the grade to avoid having to sit back down before it eases up.

I didn't think of that, but that would explain my increasing satisfaction with my ability to ride while standing. Haven't put a LOT of miles on the FG, but indeed, there have been plenty of times when sitting wasn't an option!
