How about the seatpost though? My '73 GS has a 27.2 post, which is what I'd expect.

If it is/was a purple GS, that's a shame, but it sort of aligns with what the seller told me. The bike was his son's college wheels. He bought it at the big state school he attended from someone who was graduating, and the seller thought that guy is the one who spray bombed it. So I'm imagining a kid goes to college with his dad's old purple Raleigh. Some Neanderthal calls him a fem for riding a purple bike, so one Friday night, after way too many cheap beers, he makes a really bad decision, and does so while he has very poor eye-hand coordination. One of many possible scenarios, I'm sure, but all are regrettable.
