I tore a muscle in my forearm wrenching on the stupid droopy pista bars trying to climb when I first got the bike. Nice road bars, proper levers and lots and lots of riding straightened everything out after a while.

Rule of thumb for any form of exercise is don't increase duration, volume or intensity more than 10% at a time. Seems like you increased intensity quite a bit.
