I have a bike with BB30 bottom bracket, well known for creaking and ticking. Recently I thought I was going to have to replace the bearings. Turned out I solved it by removing my pedals, cleaning the threads, greasing and reinstalling to proper torque. I also wiped down and oiled my chain (which was overdue).

Silence. Golden silence.

Moral: Don't over-complicate it. Do the easy stuff first.
