I think the toothpaste / buffing kit methods are more for
dulled screens from wear and tear. And also to take the surface layer off yellowed car headlight covers.
You have scrapes or gouges that are deeper. I suppose a buffing wheel with polishing compound could take these out, but then the screen wouldn't be completely flat, and might look distorted. And you'd have to be careful not to overheat the screen while buffing it.
There doesn't appear to be any product available that would fill in the gouge and make it transparent.
Here's a quick thing to try: filling the scratches with vaseline. It would need to be reapplied often, but at least you could see if it worked.

Yes it's a touch screen. I should have posted what this was. It's a Garmin Touring GPS. I'll try the Vaseline trick.
