Back in the day when I toured a lot using pedals with toe clips and straps, I would often just use the one pair of shoes for everything, but many years ago I switched over to spd's, and now I always carry a second pair of extremely lightweight packable camp shoes. It's so nice to have a warm and dry pair of shoes to change into if you've been riding all day in the rain.
