Brooks saddles and hand made bicycle frames, (actually hand made anything) have something in common - neither are ever perfect!

That said, it is the hand made thing that adds character to a vintage bicycle. The things that the OP is complaining about, to me, suggest hand made, not robot made, quality and the flaws present simply add character to the bicycle(or saddle).

No box, so what! Does that have anything to do with saddle quality? Will is matter when the saddle is on the bicycle?

Flaws, look at the bike you intend to use the saddle on. Is the bicycle flawless? Probably not. In fact, darn few vintage bicycles reached the show room floor, yet along the customer, in flawless condition. So...

Were it me, I would not get too upset at a flaw or two. In fact, it is those flaws that lend credibility to the hand build nature of the bicycle, in my opinion.
