Wife shifting woes...

...whose thread title will likely elicit some clever responses.

Actually, though, I'm hunting for a right hand thumb shifter that my wife can operate easily.
The bike is a Miyata Two-Ten, and has a Shimano Light Action RD w/ a 6-speed freewheel.
It currently has a Shimano SIS that we're both unhappy with, and I'm hoping for suggestions.

I see on fleabay a Shimano Acera SL-M310 and an Altus SL-M310, both 7-speed shifters. It looks like they each have dual levers, which I think my wife may like. Also, I see a SRAM X3, would that be an option? (I do not want shifters with integrated levers.)

I know it's kind on an entry level setup, but I'm hoping for adequate but reliable shifts in an easy to operate dual lever shifter system.

(I can use a 7-speed shifter with a 6-speed freewheel, right?)

Thanks for any thoughts or alternatives!
