i also talk to motorists who do jerky things, and other people, mostly to communicate. "bicycle behind you" "on your left" or whatever else.

practice being vocal and you will have no problem saying things so others can you when the occasion calls for it. IME most cyclists say things either too fast or too softly or not at all. that is wrong. i'm a big believer in announcing your presence, regardless of whether the person can see you or not (pedestrians and motorists often don't see cyclists) and esp. if the person ahead can't see you.
