Bikes: Long Haul Trucker

In the real world, I wonder how many miles one would get if they maintained the driveline perfectly, keeping it spotless compared to me with just the wipe down with a rag every 100-200 miles or so. Is it worth all the trouble? I know one thing, if my body holds out and I go on a long tour, the chain will not be a priority. Yea, I'll take care of it but it would be the bare minimum. I think most of the dirt, etc. I see on the driveline really doesn't hurt anything; it's the stuff inside the chain and whatever crap between the roller and the tooth on the sprocket that causes the damage.
