At some point in the 80's, maybe late 70's, the Record hub went to English thread. It should be clearly marked on the on the hub near the freewheel threads. That being said, the only difference between the two is thread pitch and the general rule of thumb is that it's OK to put an English thread freewheel on an Italian thread hub, but once done, you shouldn't go back to using an Italian thread.
