I use drop bars for all of my riding from the cargo bike to the road bike to the cross bike. There is no reason the drops can't be used in traffic, I am, however, very happy with modern brake levers (with or without shifters), and believe they are much easier to use from the hoods (top of the brake levers) than the older styles.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with that bike. It isn't particularly special, with a fairly small frame for a shorter rider. Otherwise, it should be fine.
Drops might be a little difficult if this is what the OP is trying to use.
