Depends on location. That said, I find them invaluable on MUP trails, and pretty worthless elsewhere.

I added reflectors and kickstands to one of my bikes. I'm not worried that others will think I'm not a real cyclist because I have a visibility device for low light riding, and despite assurances that there is always an option to place my bike against, sometimes it is just nice to kick the kickstand down and stand the bike up.

Another good option if you don't need the back pockets (I love them personally) are whatever generic lightweight golf polos you can find on sale. Truth be told, I was always as comfortable in them as in any bike jersey. I've got a couple of Nishiki branded jerseys I got at Dicks for $9 on clearance that are my go-tos, though. Just plain solid colors that look like a regular shirt, and bright orange to give some good visibility.

As to the OP: change or add something when you realize a need to do so. Doing it any other way is just forcing other people's wants or needs upon yourself, and won't necessarily make your bike any better for you. That said, I love a cheap wired cycle computer on all my bikes
