As others have said, there are vast stretches in the west where bicycles are allowed. Just along the Colorado Front Range there is about 200 miles of Interstate riding because no other roads are available. Just from Raton, NM to Trinidad to Colorado Springs (150 miles), there is about 100 miles that has to be ridden on I-25 because there just isn't anything else available.
