Classic Raleigh 3-arm double crankset: Help!

I own a mid-70's Sprite 27, and I have "clearance issues" with the crankset. Today, I saw a Raleigh of the same vintage, and it looked like the crankset was assembled differently. At that moment, I wondered if this may be the reason why I can't put the entire crankset together (2 rings, spacer, and trouser protector ring) without something not fitting right. Does anybody have either an exploded view from a repair manual (or else good high-def pictures) of how this entire unit is supposed to fit? I suspect that the carrier arms may have been installed backwards, causing the rest of the issues.
