Thanks for the question. I bought the Le Champ as a bare frame, so no original cup/bearings. If I recall correctly the LC was originally supplied with a Campy BB and the GJ had a Stronglight Competition BB.
...if you are starting out from zero, and they are French threaded frames (likely), it's worth seeing if you can just make one of those Velo Orange sealed units work in terms of length. You avoid all the messy possibles of the various cup, bearing, and spindle interactions...also it's a decent quality BB unit mostly.
