For $1000 you can buy a very good bike. Recommending a specific bike is a useless exercise. There are probably dozens of very good bicycles available in that price range. The real trick is figuring out where to buy it. Good bike shops have equipment that can measure all your body proportions. They can take that information and make recommendations about which bikes will fit you best. This is your primary concern, a good fit. Next you have to make sure that the shop you buy from provides good service and support. You want to know that if you have problems after you buy your bike that your shop will help you out. Last on the list is the make and model of bike you buy.I've done a lot of research on this.
