I've been bit once, dog was being walked by his owners (not on a leash), it walked right in front of me then as a started to speed away it started chasing and bit me. Owners called for the dog but he kept chasing so I kicked it in the face. I stopped to check my wound and the owners got the dog and kept walking, never making sure to see if I was ok or to offer help. I was fortunate to just have a small wound, no stitches or anything. Just antibiotics. Did report the bite to the police. Doubt they ever found the dog.
I've since bought a small air horn and I've used it once. Big dog bolted from his driveway directly towards me. Gave him two short blasts on the little horn, dog stopped immediately and looked confused before turning to run back to his house.
