It was a quick search. I'm not sure what I put in as search terms. Perhaps (Carbon|CF), then quickly narrowed down all the bikes that looked too big, or grossly small. I think the Crossrip had a CF fork which was snagged.

Anyway, I'd go for a $1K used CF bike before buying a basic Aluminum sporting goods store quality bike. They just don't seem that impressive to me.

Actually, for my tastes, I'd probably buy a bare used frame and build it up.

There are, of course, lots of cheaper options, so one doesn't have to spend $1K. That was just the OP's budget.
